Jubilee
While the heart of the Jubilee is in Rome, its reach extends worldwide, ensuring that every believer can take part in its spiritual significance. A key innovation introduced by Pope Francis in 2016 was the concept of a decentralized Jubilee, allowing the opening of Holy Doors in cathedrals and sanctuaries across dioceses on every continent. This initiative grants access to the Jubilee indulgence for those unable to travel to Rome, making the event truly universal.As a result, Holy Doors have been established in thousands of churches, abbeys, and places of worship across the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Europe. Pilgrims can receive plenary indulgence by visiting these sacred sites, provided they are sincerely repentant and driven by a spirit of charity, and by participating in the Sacrament of Penance, the Holy Eucharist, and prayer for the intentions of the Pope.
In Arezzo Province, nine Holy Doors have been designated—including locations where the “Jubilee Oil”, produced and distributed by Oleificio Toscano Morettini, is made. Selected by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization as one of the official gastronomic specialties of the Holy Year 2025, this oil is deeply rooted in a land rich in history and religious tradition.
The widespread nature of the Jubilee will provide an opportunity to rediscover and appreciate this region’s artistic, cultural, and spiritual heritage while fostering tourism and strengthening the community’s bond with the Catholic Church.
Among these Holy Doors, a visit to the Sanctuary of Madonna delle Vertighe is highly recommended. Declared the patroness of the Autostrada del Sole by Pope Paul VI in 1964, this sanctuary houses invaluable works of art and is located just a short distance from the SuprEvo Oil Museum, where the “Jubilee Oil” will be available. This sanctuary, dating back to 1100, is linked to a miraculous event in which the Virgin Mary is said to have transported a medieval chapel from the countryside of Asciano to the hill of Vertighe, making it an important pilgrimage site.
